Salary:

Presently, NYC youth receive less than the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day.
Through the Up2Us Coaches term of service, we look to change that by providing opportunities for all
youth to successfully be engaged and participate in physical activity during the school day. This includes
establishing a combination of team-building and social emotional activities that increases the youth’s
confidence and self- awareness while building a healthy relationship with fitness.


We are looking for people like you, who lead an active lifestyle and are passionate and feel inspired about
designing and evaluating physical health and activity programs and who are willing to roll up their sleeves,
help us rewrite the narrative and change the health outcomes of NYC’s underserved communities.

your strategies, thoughts, and ideas on how, together, we can create the healthiest community possible.


The Up2Us Coach will work closely with the Equity Design team in connecting schools and organizations
in underserved communities with low impact physical activity engagement programming, resources,
technical assistance, and solutions that promote and increase physical activity engagement.
The Up2Us Coach will support the CEO and Physical Activity and Resource Associate in documenting
meeting minutes, determining strategies and sourcing opportunities to support physical activity program
objectives in NYC schools, organizations and communities’ wellness councils. Duties will include:


• Attending and documenting program partner meetings, observations, and trainings
• Providing feedback to CEO and Associate about recommendations for program partners to improve
on their wellness goals (health, nutrition, and physical activity)
• Researching and reporting back on resources that can help support program partners in achieving
their wellness goals
• Develop a survey tool to understand perceptions and desires related to school meals
• Comfortable working in a school environment and fostering relationships with elementary and middle
school age youth and teachers
• Become familiar with research and resources related to health disparities and importance of school
wellness
• Administrative and program team support with current projects, including Creating Healthy
Schools and Communities, Active Recess Environments, Active Design for Outdoor Learning, and
Play and Faith-Based Organization Walking Programs and Fitness Hubs
• Working with Equity Design and Elementary/Middle and High School partner schools in
designing, building, facilitating, and evaluating a culture of wellness through push-in physical
activity programming during in-school and Physical Education classes
• Assist with the design of Physical Education scope and sequence and lead and facilitate
physical activity programming activities and lessons with school’s current PE Teacher
• Increasing physical activity time to help improve student’s mental health, wellness, and academic
engagement
• Assist with the creation of an all-inclusive end of year field day for the school
• Attend School Wellness meetings and provide follow up when needed
• Attend Equity Design program planning and technical assistance and support team meetings
• Coordinate and plan Bronx Physical Education cohort sessions during the school year


Specific site qualifications/eligibility requirements:


• A genuine interest and passion in youth development, coaching, and/or physical activity
programming
• Experience coaching/teaching youth
• Experience with lesson planning and designing fitness-based activities for youth
• Customer service, organization skills, and attention to detail
• Ability to coach and design activity plans based on youth’s skill set
• Ability to teach the fundamentals within their sport and incorporate leadership, communication, and
team building lessons
• Independent thinker with entrepreneurial spirit to plan and lead in a youth dynamic setting
• Strong group and classroom management skills
• Ability to motivate and engage communities through fitness and sports
• A clear demonstration of success in working with youth in NYC’s underserved communities
• Available to work some evenings and on weekends to facilitate school and community-based
programming


Additionally, the Up2Us AmeriCorps Coach will:


• Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport,
using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events.
• Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager.
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.


Up2Us AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of
the AmeriCorps program:


• Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by last day of coach contract.
• Attendance at the Up2Us Coach orientation.
• Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
• Attendance at days of community service.
• Attend/participate in Up2Us Sports trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
• Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by Program Manager).


Uniform Policy:


Coaches must wear Up2Us Sports branded t-shirts provided by Up2Us Sports with AmeriCorps logo when
coaching and at program sessions and events.


Eligibility & Qualifications


  • AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have, or be working towards High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background checks.
  • Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily.
  • Other requirements as required.


Living Allowance: $20,399.00
Education Award: $6,495.00

Minimum Service Hours: 1700 hours

Anticipated Schedule: 35 hours per week


*Living allowance amount is contingent upon the completion of the service term as outlined in the Coach Contract.
