Ambulatory Risk Adjustment Coding Specialist I
Position Highlights:
  • Position: Ambulatory Risk Adjustment Coding Specialist
  • Location: Hybrid (Skokie, IL and remote)
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full-time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, during normal hours

What you will do:
  • Provide care based on physical, psychological, educational and related criteria appropriate to the age and type of the patients/customers served in their area.
  • Present as a coding resource for other coders, physicians, charge entry staff and clinical staff.
  • Participates in continuing education and in-service programs to NSUHS to maintain coding and billing skills.
  • Communicate coding changes and updates with physicians based on department standards.
  • Queries physician and/or staff regarding incomplete or missing documentation.
  • Work resolute charge review work queues with the purpose of correcting coding errors, reviewing documentation and applying coding guidelines to ensure the accurate and timely filling of charges.
  • Ensure service, procedure and diagnoses codes are accurately reported and linked.
  • Assign CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS codes based on coding guidelines.
  • Queries Physician/Provider when applicable
  • Maintain productivity and aging levels based on department standards.
  • Identify trends in coding issues and works with manager to educate and implement solutions.

What you will need:
  • Education: High school diploma, required
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, the ability to analyze and interpret medical documents (e.g., encounter forms, progress notes), and apply coding and/or local Medical policy guidelines/regulations.
    • Must be able to perform multiple tasks and detailed work problem solve, reason and perform basic mathematical calculations.
    • Must be able to use computer with current Windows applications. Passing scores on the following Competency Assessments: 1) Basic Computer Skills Test 2) Typing Test (20 WPM)
  • Experience:
    • 1-2 years of outpatient coding and billing experience preferred.
    • Experience within a multi-specialty physician group preferred.
    • Experience with EPIC or EMR preferred.
  • Certification: CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A , CCA, or RHIT, successfully complete skills certification test according to policy
