Summary
The Allied Health Technical Specialist is a critical role focused on ensuring the optimal functioning and safety of diagnostic imaging equipment within the University of Michigan Health System. This position requires conducting thorough quality control tests on a variety of imaging technologies, including x-ray, MRI, ultrasound, and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS). The specialist is responsible for maintaining precise records of these tests and collaborating effectively with a diverse team of medical professionals, including medical physicists, radiologists, and technologists.

Responsibilities*
  • Assist with the performance of quality control testing of x-ray, ultrasound, and PACS equipment, particularly focusing on workstation display monitors.
  • Conduct testing of radiation protection aprons and shields.
  • Maintain accurate records of all tests.
  • Provide services throughout the U of M Health System, including its satellite locations.
  • Assist with the development of new tools for the performance of QC tests.

Required Qualifications*
  • Certification as a diagnostic x-ray technologist or a BS degree in science with experience in conducting scientific experiments.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic x-ray, ultrasound, and PACS equipment.
  • Ability to work independently for some tasks and as part of a team for others.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, move, and position fairly heavy QC equipment and instruments, wearing heavy radiation protection aprons, and move equipment carts.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Computer skills, especially in Excel.
  • Experience in using electronic measuring equipment.
  • Quality control experience
  • Advanced data analysis skills.
  • Experience using radiation measuring equipment.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday. Some flexibility dependent on equipment availability.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
