Position Complexities
Evaluate patienthealth status and synthesize anesthetic plan based upon risk factors andsurgical requirements to insure patient safety. The anesthetist is responsiblefor independently determining anesthetic techniques, pharmaceuticals, and proceduresused, and altering anesthetic plan based on patient responses and changes insurgical conditions. Position requirescare of patients covered by Indian Child Protection and Family ViolencePrevention
Accountabilities
1. Provides clinical anesthesia service as scheduled.This includes pre-anesthetic evaluations and determinations, administration ofa variety of anesthetic agents, as well as post-anesthetic follow-up andmanagement.
2. Analyzes and interprets complex medical data andutilizes this information to provide appropriate anesthetic care
3. Utilizes complex medical and life support equipmentto evaluate and care for anesthetized patients.
4. Participates in all Medical Staff functions asrequested.
5. Responds to hospital emergencies when airway controlis required.
6. Provides educational programs as needed regardingairway control, resuscitation, pharmacology, and theories and practice ofanesthesia and pain management.
PositionQualifications
Education
Graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia program(Master of Science Degree) or
Certificate in Nursing Anesthesiology (prior to1990).
License and Certifications
Licensure as a Registered Nurse by State of AlaskaBoard of Nursing
Licensure as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist byState of Alaska Board of Nursing
Certification by National Board on Certification& Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.

BLS- required
ACLS-required
PALS required
Experience
4 years of clinical anesthesia experience afteranesthesia training is completed preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge:
Advanced levels of understanding of humanphysiology, pharmacology and response to surgical stressors.
Technical expertise in understanding of functionand use of complex medical equipment to monitor and evaluate patient responseto treatment.
Advanced ability to evaluate respiratory status andrespond appropriately to abnormality.
Skills:
Rapid recognition and evaluation of changes inpatient condition.
Technical expertise in airway management.
Expertise in regional anesthesia
Abilities:
Maintain control of rapidly evolving anesthesiacare scenarios.
Rapid evaluation and synthesis of treatmentmodalities in emergency situations.
Ability to function independent of clinicalsupervision in the field of anesthesia.

***Pertains to Travel OB RN's:The nurse is on-call for 7 days in a row, 12 hours each day. The RN will receive a guaranteed 40 hours for the week. The nurse will not receive on-call or call back pay since they are already "on-call". The on-call nurse will have 30 minutes to respond to any page and cannot leave the island. On-call will rotate through staff every week, so each nurse will be on-call every 3 weeks.***
