Airport Building Maintenance Technician (OPEN)
Public notice is hereby given by the Civil Service Commission of Cleveland, Ohio, of an open competitive examination for the above classification.

SALARY: The prevailing salary for this position as established by Ordinance of the Council of the City of Cleveland is $21.50 - $29.00 per hour.
EXAMINATION INFORMATION
WRITTEN EXAMINATION: Applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of the examination via email.
Examples of Duties
Under direct supervision, performs maintenance and repair work requiring mechanical ability and familiarity with maintenance activities at a large facility. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to basic HVAC, Plumbing, Roofing, Carpentry, Snow/Ice removal and general maintenance tasks at Cleveland Hopkins International and Burke Lakefront Airports to ensure the safety, security, and proper upkeep of airport facilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform basic and routine facilities maintenance that includes (Moving office furniture, resetting escalators, elevators, and speedwalks, escorting contractors, resetting/inspecting automatic doors and gates)
  • Perform building checks and inspections
  • Perform and assist with entry level HVAC; filter changes, coil cleanings, and belt/motor adjustments. Assist with troubleshooting and repair of large-scale HVAC issues as needed
  • Perform and assist with entry level plumbing; snaking out toilets, sinks, and drains as needed maintaining and repairing restroom fixtures and hardware as needed
  • Perform and assist with entry level carpentry; installing/repairing floor tiles, ceiling tiles, and cove base. Perform demolition work and assist with new construction as needed
  • Perform and assist with entry level roofing; make small patching repairs to roof areas as needed
  • Perform and assist with Snow/Ice Control; operate snow removal equipment as needed to apply chemicals and remove snow from roadways and sidewalks
  • Perform and assist with fire pumps sprinkler testing and inspections of valves. Assist as needed with repairs to sprinklers, fire valves, and all associated piping
  • Follow all standard safety operating procedures and policies
  • Utilize internal work order system to log activities as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma from an accredited high school program or GED is required.
  • One-year full time paid employment working commercial or industrial maintenance preferred
  • Must be familiar with the operation and mechanism of building appurtenances, handheld power tools, and larger power equipment and vehicles used in facilities maintenance work.
  • A valid Driver's License required.
  • Must successfully complete all applicable regulatory airfield Ground Vehicle Operator and Winter Operations training/assessments, within the probationary period, and maintain corresponding airfield driving privileges throughout employment.
  • Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment that fosters non-discrimination.
  • NIMS and ICS certifications for General Employee tier and any assigned working groups must be completed within six months of employment and complete additional or refresher trainings as required.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment that fosters non-discrimination.
  • Must be able to crouch, kneel, reach, stoop, bend, climb and descend ladders, as well as enter confined spaces and below grade vaults.
  • Must have good verbal communication, average writing, and basic computer skills.
  • Must be willing to work any permanently assigned shift in a three shift 24/7 schedule, with weekdays off as assigned.
  • Must successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) 10 year fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check and employment background check and Security Threat Assessment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull fifty (50) pounds.

VETERANS' PREFERENCE
Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant's supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service connected disability.
NOTE:Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
THE COMMISSION WILL NOT ENTERTAIN APPEALS FOR VETERANS' PREFERENCE CREDIT AFTER THE APPLICANT HAS FILED HIS/HER APPLICATION. THE DECISION OF THE COMMISSION IS FINAL.
