Classification Description
Applies preservative treatments to aircraft, missiles, and support equipment (SE). Paints aircraft, missiles, and SE. Identifies, removes, and treats corrosion using mechanical and chemical procedures. Applies corrosion protective and low observable coatings. Applies aircraft paint schemes and markings. Required to perform assigned tasks within your work center that directly supports necessary functions of this job classification.
Specialty Qualifications
a. Knowledge. Knowledge of corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention is mandatory. Knowledge of cleaning metals and the application of protective coatings, low-observable materials, and markings is mandatory. Knowledge of the proper use, mixing and storage of acids, solvents, alcohol, caustics, primers, and paints is mandatory. Knowledge of the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and materials. Knowledge of MIS (CAMS/IMDS) and desktop computer operations and use is mandatory.
b. Education. Completion of high school with courses in shop mathematics and metalworking or mechanical drawing is desirable. Completion of basic aircraft maintenance course is desirable.
c. Experience. Qualification as Paint Technician is mandatory. A minimum of five years of experience in corrosion identification and removal and applying coatings and markings is mandatory.
Special Certifications and Qualifications required for position (as determined by Program Manager)
Must have prior Aircraft Painter/corrosion control experience. SECRET CLEARANCE REQUIRED.
