If you have interest or experience working with heavy-duty diesel engines and emission control technologies, then this position may be the perfect career fit for you. We are looking for a motivated individual that has the technical background and ability to work with a team of engineers in the development of the next round of stringent emission standards and test procedures for on-road heavy-duty diesel engines. Assignments include working with engine and vehicle manufacturers and other stakeholders in developing new regulatory requirements that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) and criteria emissions that are cost effective and beneficial to the public. The selected candidate will have a significant role in protecting public health of citizens in California and providing a technical platform for other states and nations to take these benefits to the rest of the world.
Under the supervision of an Air Resources Supervisor 1, the incumbent will work with a team of Air Resources Engineers within the section in developing new proposals to reduce heavy-duty vehicle GHG and criteria emissions, consisting of strengthening the emission standards and in-use requirements; revising certification test cycles; and amending the certification and in-use testing protocols and other requirements. The incumbent will prepare and review engineering studies; develop and evaluate test programs; write regulations, prepare rulemaking documentation and technical support documents, and perform cost analysis to reduce emissions from on-road heavy-duty diesel vehicles; represent the Air Resources Board (CARB or Board) in meetings; and present regulatory concepts and proposals to stakeholders at workshops, conferences, and other venues. Activities include technology assessments to determine the level of emission control achievable for various emission sources, analysis of technical data, regulatory assessments to determine the appropriate methods of regulating industries, and regulatory development which involves writing and amending regulations and test procedures and spearheading them through the public hearing process.
