Model Risk Governance- AI/ML Risk Governance

Model Risk Management (MRM) is part of the Corporate Risk Management of Huntington and is responsible for the independent oversight of models and non-statistical tools developed, acquired, and used by Huntington. AI/ML Risk Governance will partner with other members of MRM Team (AI/ML Governance Specialist, Model Validation Team, Model Governance Team), Model Developers, Model Owners, Segment Risk Officers, and various persons across Huntington’s Three Lines of Defense. 

The AI/ML Model Risk Governance position will support the broader implementation of MRM’s AI/ML Framework by leading identification, intake, onboarding, initial reviews of AI/ML tools and coordinating risk oversight reviews related to AI/ML (models, tools, applications). 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the execution of Huntington’s integrated AI/ML Risk Oversight Program between Model Risk Management, Corporate Compliance, Technology Risk, Operational Risk and Enterprise Risk Management. 
  • Understanding the business context which may create a need for AI/ML model.
  • Leading the onboarding of AI/ML tools including reviewing and independently challenging initial intake risk assessment review, inventorying, and facilitating subsequent independent review and effective.
  • Designing and leading execution of initial AI/ML reviews including development, design and theory, use including reviewing Model Documentation, vendor white papers, model testing results, and other related activities.
  • Assessing AI/ML model design and training data for appropriateness, ethical use, and fairness during discovery and onboarding.
  • Verifying models have adequate explainability and/or interpretability documentation based upon Huntington’s AI/ML Policy.
  • Being an influential and impactful leader, shaping AI/ML model acquisition priorities by identifying and communicating model limitations in a way which shapes model usage and future model acquisition.
  • Communicating technical subject matter, risks, and concerns, clearly and concisely, both verbally and through well-written communications including Initial Assessment.
  • Preparing or reviewing reports related to onboarding activities, review, monitoring and or control activities consistent with internal and regulatory requirements for AI/ML.
  • Communicating MRM program and regulatory expectations to internal and external partners including audit and other risk control colleagues.  
  • Performing research as necessary to inform MRM program decision-making.
  • Contributing to strategic, cross-functional initiatives within the MRM team.
  • Supporting ad hoc Corporate Risk Management initiatives and projects.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics and or designated certifications such as CFA, FRM
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience to include a role within Model Risk Management developing and/or reviewing AI/ML tools or models

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with model risk and regulatory guidance such as OCC 2011-12/ SR 11-7
  • Hands-on experience with Machine Learning, including classification theory, tree-based modeling methods, neural networks, logistic regression, and others.
  • Knowledge or experience of the quantitative and qualitative risk factors, industry risks, competition risks, and risk management approaches.
  • Proficiency with R, Python, or SAS programming languages, with knowledge of related data analysis libraries.
  • Familiarity with ModelOps and common platforms to host AI/ML models (i.e., SAS, AWS)
  • Familiarity with various risk disciplines (IT/data, compliance, security, privacy, operational, third-party)
  • Demonstrated independence, teamwork, and leadership skills. Ability to work with multiple teams, and strong work ethic.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, negotiation, and project management skills.
