Battelle's Crop Protection Division employs over 100 scientists and provides contracted services to agricultural chemical companies globally to ensure the efficacy and sustainability of products that improve agricultural quality and yields worldwide.

We are currently seeking an Agricultural Regulatory Affairs Scientist. This position is located in Columbus, OH, but will consider remote locations. If remote, travel to Columbus, OH is required. Additional travel to other locations where Battelle serves clients and the agriculture industry, potentially including the European Union and United Kingdom is required.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will combine technical expertise in the agrochemical industry with a focus on regulatory affairs, with a proven track record as providing high level regulatory consulting and negotiations with Federal and State agency representatives. Candidate will also have a strategic role in the growth and development of the crop protection division in North America.

  • Experience managing large, complex agrochemcial/regulatory projects/programs for commercial clients.
  • Ability to identify future business opportunities, lead proposals and project/program teams and contribute to overall capture planning and business growth.
  • Independent thought and ability to identify and resolve problems associated with the development and implementation of regulatory projects and programs.
  • Experience effectively managing a range of commercial contracts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with fluency in a second language advantageous


Responsibilities

  • To provide high level regulatory services to Battelle's Crop Protection Division clients in North America.
  • To attract and retain new clients through the provision of a highly professional and timely regulatory affairs service.
  • Develop regulatory projects with a wide variety of clients, mainly agrochemical based, in North America using Battelle resources in the US and UK.
  • Act as the Coordinator for clients on their regulatory projects, liaising as necessary with colleagues in Battelle and with regulatory professionals in client organizations.
  • Advise clients on regulatory requirements in the North America markets and propose regulatory solutions to achieve product registrations.
  • Assist clients in determining their product regulatory strategies; the present and future political hurdles that must be overcome.
  • Recommend and assess strategies for overcoming product regulatory concerns (e.g. additional studies, modelling etc.)
  • Assist clients in positioning their business and products with the EPA, USDA, FDA, etc. to achieve future regulatory successes. This may involve engaging the scientific and regulatory communities, NGO's, media and the public, through common research projects, attending meetings/symposia, presentations etc.
  • Develop and successfully utilize a professional network both internally in Battelle and with relevant external bodies (regulatory, scientific etc.).
  • Provide strategic insights into the agrochemical CRO industry and assist with the development of the growth strategy for the Crop Protection Division


Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Biological, Physical, or Environmental Science 3 years of regulatory experience.
  • Candidates must have experience of agrochemical regulatory affairs and in-depth knowledge of the relevant US/Canadian legislation (FIFRA) governing the registration of plant protection substances. This will have been gained in (ideally), a CRO or an agro-industry company
  • Candidates must possess the communication skills to effectively interact with senior management and scientific staff internally and within client organizations.
  • Must be able to travel
  • US Citizenship


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemical, Biological, Physical, or Environmental Science.
  • 5 years of regulatory experience.
