Monday - Friday 2 PM-6 PM

For over 98 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso have helped young people build great futures as productive and responsible citizens. Today, our four Clubs serve nearly two thousand children annually through Club membership and community outreach. We work with students through activities that help them succeed in school and become leaders. Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their goals and we exist to make that dream a reality.

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Youth Development Specialist (YDS) is responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and providing high quality and consistent Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, Sports & Fitness, and STEM programming for youth. S/he plays an essential role in ensuring the safety of BGCEP Club Members as well as establishing positive social interactions and maintaining a positive Club environment. Youth Development Specialists work collectively to assist Club Members with developing better physical and mental fitness, improving social and interpersonal skills, engaging in positive use of leisure time, and improving school attendance and performance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate on programs, activities, and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained.
  • Plan and implement BGCA & BGCEP programs, services, and activities to ensure that they meet the stated objectives as well as the needs and interests of Club Members.
  • Compiles regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation.
  • Attends all mandatory staff meetings and staff training regularly.
  • Works with other staff and administrative personnel to carry out standard programs and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Field Operations and Chief Executive Officer.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the successful execution of the organization’s mission by following the policies and procedures, professional standards, and communication requirements of staff members.
  • Answers phones and welcomes visitors.
  • Attends relevant BGCA training events and other staff development sessions.
  • Deals effectively with Club Members including discipline problems.
  • Develops and implements fun, quality, safe programming and activities that will attract participation by Club Members of all genders, ages, and backgrounds.
  • Drives youth in BGCEP vehicles when required or drive BGCEP vehicles to pick up donations.
  • Implements BGCA strategies, curriculum, and programs daily.
  • Instills a sense of sponsorship, teamwork, and fair play in Club Members as well as amongst staff during programs and activities.
  • Maintains a clean work area and contributes to the overall organization and cleanliness of the Club.
  • Maintains daily contact with Club Members and provides guidance, mentoring, and role modeling to all Club Members.
  • Participates in special training for all employees as well as within required staff development sessions.
  • Runs scheduled large and small group activities at the scheduled times with a high level of excitement and order under the direct supervision of the Unit Director.
  • Serves meals to members.
  • Supervises members on field trips, as needed.
  • Supports data tracking related to daily activities and meeting grant requirements, when applicable.
  • Tracks inventory of Club materials for learning and recreation.
  • May be assigned special projects periodically by the Unit Director or Director of Field Operations.

SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • English/Spanish capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • A minimum of one year of work experience with children and youth.
  • Experience in planning and supervising activities based on the development needs of young people or equivalent experience.
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • CPR/ AED/ First-Aid Certification

The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties. The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present.
