About the Library at the Georgia Institute of Technology

The Georgia Tech Library is a member of the University System of Georgia library consortia, Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education (ARCHE), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), and the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The Georgia Tech Library has a unique and progressive service model that relies heavily on technology and electronic formats. Electronic resources account for 79% of our overall content, 98% of the Library's content expenditures and 99% of our content usage and the majority of our print collections are held in a high-density, climate-controlled storage facility in collaboration with Emory University Libraries. Job Summary

The Library (https://library.gatech.edu/) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for an exciting new position within the Technical Services Department. The Affordable Learning Librarian will work collaboratively with teaching faculty, library staff, and other campus partners to promote the adoption of open and Affordable Learning materials and provide students and instructors with seamless access to library collections and course readings. The Affordable Learning Librarian will be excited about the future of classroom affordability and the role libraries play in promoting equitable and fair access to course materials. This role will report to the Head of Technical Services and participate in a collaborative content acquisition and management operations, which includes acquisitions, cataloging, interlibrary loan, reserves, and electronic resources.
This is a 12-month faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% librarianship, 10% scholarship, and 10% professional service to the library profession. Up to two (2) years credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter. The Georgia Tech Library Faculty may enjoy flexible work schedules, professional development, and a healthy work-life balance. This is not a remote position, but some teleworking hours is supported.

Responsibilities

80% Provide and improve library services and resources; enrich the research, learning, and scholarship of the Georgia Tech community through the following:

    Serve as subject matter expert for the reserves and course reading list service. Implement and administer course reading list tool(s). Collaborate with teaching faculty and instructional designers to integrate library-sourced instructional materials into Canvas, the Learning Management System (LMS), and other course settings. Design workflows, plans service enhancements, train instructors/teaching faculty, resolve access and/or configuration problems for the library-sourced materials ensuring fair use compliance; manage and update communications on Course Reserves; and conduct in-house workshops for library employees as needed. Conducts regular assessments of the course reserves service and workflows and implements new projects or services enhancements. Collaborates with Technical Services Librarians and other Library colleagues to ensure a unified strategy for resource acquisition, discovery, delivery, and integration of scholarly resources.Participates in affordable educations discussions with local, state, and national efforts including, but not limited to Affordable Learning Georgia.

    According to expectations for library faculty members, contribute professionally through research, scholarship, and creative activities.

10% Service to the Library, Institute, and LIS Profession

    Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promote the Institute and Library's commitment to the Georgia Tech values.Serve on library and university committees as assigned.Contribute to the profession through service to professional organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels, as appropriate.
Required Qualifications

This position will be filled at the rank of Librarian I.

Librarian I
Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.

Preferred Qualifications
    Library experience in at least one of the following areas:electronic reserves, acquisitions, electronic resources, or document delivery in an integrated library system (ILS).Knowledge of practices, issues, and trends in OER, open textbooks, open licensing, and fair use.Understanding of license terms and digital rights management (DRM), copyright, and fair use of library electronic resources.Experience developing and delivering effective training for faculty and librarian colleagues.Experience using the Canvas learning management system. Experience with Ex Libris Alma and Primo Systems.Experience with reading list software, specifically Leganto.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, written and oral communications skills.
Proposed Salary

This is a benefits-eligible position with a minimum salary of $67,498, commensurate with education and experience.
