Title: AFCAAM Afterschool Tutor, Part-time (30 hrs./wk.)

Overview
Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. provides services to people of all races, backgrounds and beliefs. We offer a variety of housing and social service programs to individuals, families, and communities across ten counties in Southwest Florida. The African Caribbean American (AFCAAM) Center of Catholic Charities provides Lee County residents with a variety of programs that focus on reading, positive youth development, mentoring, socialization, family engagement and community outreach.
Job Responsibilities
- Plans and participates actively in activities for the daily program for the children
- Assist children with assignments and homework, such as reading, writing, and math.
- Prepare learning materials and equipment, such as books, arts and crafts, stationery, and other supplies as needed for after-school, out of school days and summer program.
- Provide a nurturing environment conducive to children’s needs, abilities, interests, temperaments, and learning styles.
- Interact with children to provide guidance, emotional support, and motivation to complete tasks.
- Create monthly and or quarterly progress reports to monitor children’s scholastic development and personal growth and meet program funder(s) requirement.
- Meet with parents to discuss their children’s performance and any areas in need of improvement.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Assure strict confidentiality standards are enforced and client information secured.
- Maintains active supervision at all times.
- Maintain a safe environment and reports safety hazards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; or Degree in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Development
- Experience working in an after-school program setting with children grades K-8
- Must have well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be highly organized and demonstrate effective time management skills.
- Must have current CPR/First Aid Certification
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred
