Mid-sized precision defense and aerospace manufacturer with high mix, fast paced environment. Family owned and operated. Unique opportunity to use engineering skills and be hands on in the manufacturing environment. Your improvements and knowledge of Manufacturing Processes will support military, aerospace, medical and industrial fields. Must have and engineering degree and 2 years minimum experience in a manufacturing environment.


Title: Manufacturing Process Engineer Department: Office


Reports To: Engineering Manager Status: Exempt


Position Summary

Responsible for evaluating customer requirements or existing processes to configure Manufacturing Processes to reduce cost and increase efficiency, quality, and safety. Tasks include but are not limited to: estimating, job router and work order creation, create detailed BOM for jobs, development of QC plans, technical purchasing and assistance, coordinate/manage subcontractors, managing projects from inception to completion, managing existing customer relationships, and other engineering responsibilities as needed. Interface regularly with QC staff, account managers, customers, vendors and all production departments.


Essential Functions

  1. Review and/or modify customer prints for manufacturability. Create shop prints from customer drawings, submissions, etc.
  2. Develop or recommend Manufacturing Processes to meet or exceed customer specifications.
  3. Create shop routers with process information to achieve customer requirements in most efficient and cost effective manner. Details must be clear and concise for all shop personnel to understand. Estimate production times
  4. Evaluate and improve on Manufacturing Processes. Identify and implement cost and efficiency improvements.
  5. Evaluate new materials, processes, or equipment.
  6. Work with vendors to determine in-process product specifications
  1. Develop and maintain customer relations by providing advice, solving problems and understanding products. Work with customer to modify design for manufacturability and best value cost. Interact with customer to ensure that requirements are met and customers are delighted
  2. Coordinate design reviews. Work with Atlas Tool's technical team and customers to ensure that process designs will meet production requirements
  1. Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  1. Keep customer product specifications up to date and manage customer change requests to reflect accurate production of product.
  1. Assist sales team as needed, including review prints for quoting and production purposes.
  2. Perform technical purchasing or work with purchasing to obtain raw materials as needed.
  3. Create in-process inspection documents to ensure conformity of product to customer requirements.
  4. Maintain plant layout. Analyze and plan space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  5. Measure customer supplied samples (reverse engineer) and create prints as needed.
  6. May perform inspections or run production if needed.
  7. Maintain basic understanding of all production equipment.

  3. Communicate all concerns and other work related issues to supervisor and other department heads as needed.
  4. Complete all paperwork associated with position.
  5. Comply with all company policies and procedures including safety and attendance requirements.
  6. Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Skills & Abilities

  1. Engineering bachelor's degree (B. S) from four-year college or university and one to two years related experience and/or training.
  2. Effective communication skills to speak and write accurately and persuasively; give and receive clarification and respond to questions.
  3. Ability to manage time effectively, organize self, perform work accurately and attention to detail.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, ERP/MRP software required.
  5. Experience with Pro-E and 2D CAD software
  6. Read and understand Blue Prints, Piece Prints, GDT and SPC; technical and legal documents and contracts
  7. Advanced Math skills, print conversion and geometry.
  8. Distinguish a variety of raw materials (stainless steel, cold rolled steel, aluminum, etc.)
  9. Understand machining, cutting, stamping and forming properties of various raw materials

Minimum Physical Requirements

  1. Typical office environment. Sedentary position; frequent standing and walking.
  2. Use of hands, arms and fingers 100% of the workday.
  3. Use of eyes 100% of the workday; 20/40 vision with or without correction required.
  4. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
