POSITION SUMMARY
The Advocate is responsible for completing admissions, helping residents resolve issues with service providers and assisting residents in setting goals from admission to discharge.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct admission interviews and provide orientation for all new residents including room/bed assignments and distribution of linens and personal items.
- Complete needs assessment and goal-setting with all residents.
- Assist residents in developing and achieving their goals, including accessing educational opportunities (i.e., GED and adult literacy classes).
- Develop and maintain current referral resources in response to resident needs.
- Advocate on behalf of residents with social service, mental health and criminal justice systems.
- Facilitate weekly support groups for residents.
- Provide transportation for residents as needed.
- Maintain ethical boundaries and professional conduct in all interactions with residents.
- Maintain confidentiality of residents in accordance with confidentiality laws.
- Have complete knowledge of emergency procedures and forms that accompany these procedures.
- Attend all-staff meetings, in-service trainings, and emergency procedure quarterly reviews with the safety officer.
- Be sensitive to the diverse backgrounds of residents and act in ways that demonstrate fairness and equality
- Uphold the policies and procedures of the program and Missions Inc.
- Other tasks as requested by the Director of the program director.
QUALIFICATIONS
- An understanding of and sensitivity to the unique problems encountered by people experiencing problematic substance use and homelessness.
- Informal counseling skills and ability to engage and instruct residents in positive behaviors.
- Organizational and communication skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate basic computer competencies.
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license.
- Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and climb (ascend and descend) flights of stairs.
- Other lifting or physical requirements as needed or as required to perform the essential functions of the position.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
SalaryRange: $18.00 -$20.00/hour depending on experience and qualifications
