Job description

FUNCTION

The position of Advocacy Associate reports to the Executive Director. The person filling this position is expected to fully participate and collaborate on the creation, management and production of preservation advocacy efforts and educational programs that engage the public in the mission of the organization. The successful candidate will be able to think strategically, be flexible, able to drive projects forward and work with others in a collaborative and supportive yet direct manner. In addition, the successful candidate will be a dynamic, people-centered, proactive individual with strong technical and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Work with Executive Director and PAGP board of directors to develop and implement diverse educational initiatives to help build an informed audience for the organization.
* Attend public and community meetings representing the Alliance, stay abreast of relevant issues, and provide statements and testimony, when necessary. Track specific projects over time and call attention to PAGP staff and board as needed.
* Field inquiries from the public on preservation issues and suggest appropriate resources, government offices, neighborhood associations, local non-profits, etc.
* Provide technical assistance to members and the general public as appropriate. Track inquiries.
* Write electronic and print newsletter articles and photographs on preservation-related issues and write updates about programs and preservation projects.
* Assist in the writing and editing of Extant, the PAGP’s 3x-yr preservation magazine.
* Write preservation/advocacy website and social media content.
* Manage and staff the Advocacy Committee, which meets monthly.
* Develop, coordinate, and fulfill grant opportunities for advocacy initiatives and programs.



EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Undergraduate Degree

EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS

* A minimum of three years working in historic preservation advocacy, architectural history, public programming, community organizing or similar
* An educational background in architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, public humanities, or related fields.
* Experience working in non-profit organizations
* Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills
* Exceptional writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills
* Experience revising/editing website and social media content
* Proven success in developing mutually beneficial relationships with internal and external partners.
* Experience developing and motivating volunteers and interns
* Required computer and technical skills: MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs)

HOURS/BENEFITS

  • Full-time, salaried, exempt
