We are looking for an Advanced Technology Engineering Manager based remotely or at our IQ Innovation Center near Chicago, Illinois, reporting tothe Vice President of Technology.
Job Summary
The Advanced Technology Engineering Manager will be the customer facing technical lead to advise, install, monitor, develop, and enhance next-generation automated technologies for protective packaging solutions. The candidate will lead technical VOC, translation to specifications, and beta or customer installations for next-generation POC automation.
The Advanced Technology Engineering Manager works closely with cross-functional peers in Product/Category Management, Sales, NPD Engineering, Client Advocacy, and other functional management to implement programs and align tactical activities to enhance next generation technology solutions. The selected candidate will maintain close collaboration with Value Creation VP Technology as well as other key functions involved in the next generation automation, machine, and software solutions.
The Advanced Technology Engineering Manager must be a customer-facing leader, who is responsible for managing customer technical product requirements and first product implementations for new adjacent vertical markets. Major responsibilities include key participation in advanced technology projects, management of alpha test customer installation and support, gathering and publishing internal and external VOC, and writing product specification, training and interface specifications for new automation categories. The leader must be able to both act as an individual contributor as well as lead as we add to the team.

Responsibilities
- Enable market-driven, longer-termProduct Roadmaps by implementing the required technology solutions and facilitating new product development from conception through Proof of Concept
- Support design and field implementation of newly developed product platforms.
- Scout and recommend interface solutions to help set specifications and links to external systems that builds a solution-based ecosystem.
- Support and lead field technical VOC and first customer installations for next generation equipment and automation.
- Project Management of multiple engineering and technical projects, particularly the first field trials, feedback from customers, and handoff to design engineering for full commercialization via Stage Gate.
- Serve as the customer facing technical leader when identifying and problem-solving new applications, particularly proof of concept. Gather internal and external VOC and translate to product requirements.
- Create product specifications and interface specifications to drive first POC aligned to customer and market needs.
- Use existing tools and develop methods for monitoring project progress, assess project issues, and develop resolutions necessary to meet project objectives. Develop project schedule and meet deliverables on time and budget.
- Work collaboratively with VP Technology and NPD Engineering for a smooth commercialization through Pregis Stage Gate.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, software engineering, or other related field.
- MS in Engineering or MBA preferred.
- 7+ years' experience in engineering of multi-component assemblies as well as experience in a manufacturing setting required.
- Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
- Working knowledge of electrical/electronic design and embedded systems required, particularly APIs, TCP/IP protocols, and wireless stacks for IoT systems including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G/4G/5G.
- Experience interfacing with numerous hardware components, buses, protocols, a plus. Experience coding, particularly networking, PLCs, and IOT systems, a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills required.
- Strong verbal and visual communication skills required.
- Excellent project management skills with experience with project management tools and processes. Smartsheet experience a plus.
- Lean and Agile/Scrum knowledge a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
