Description
Serve as primary assistant for OPO recovery surgeon and other recovery surgeons, as needed. Ensure proper OR set up and donor preparation prior to start of recovery and provides real time education to hospital OR staff.
Assist recovery surgeon in removing organs from deceased donors and handles organs upon removal per established procedures. Suture donor closed after completion of organ procurement, as needed.
Perform cannulation of kidneys in the OR for kidney pumping.
Serve as primary recovery personnel for heart for valves. assists with in-situ lymph node, spleen and vessel procurement. Understand processor recovery protocol.
Work with Leadership and Education & Training to provide direction, coaching, and mentoring with clinical competencies.
Primary trainer for all aspects of kidney pumping and organ anatomy.
Support and assist with research initiatives approved by OPO leadership, continuous improvement projects, and implementation of policies and procedures related to the recovery process.
Requirements
MD, RN, Surgical Technologist or equivalent and minimum 3 years related surgical experience with demonstrated ability to work in a sterile operating room setting. Need good knowledge of human anatomy/function and basic medical terminology, and surgical aseptic technique. CTBS, CPTC, CTOP certification preferred.
Must own a car to be able to travel within our Greater New York service area (NYC and surrounding counties).
Must be certified as a one of the following within 24 months of advancement:
Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) by NBSTSA
Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) by NSAA
Surgical Assistant-Certified (SA-C) by ABSA
State Surgical Assistant or Surgical Technologist registration.
