Job Summary
Under Physician supervision, the Physician Assistant and/or Nurse Practitioner may assume primary responsibility in their respective specialty area according to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Responsible for management of selected at risk or complex patients and aggregate patient populations in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other Healthcare team members. Must demonstrate the knowledge, critical thinking and skills to plan, coordinate and provide care on a continuing basis.
Job Description
In-House Patient Care:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of newborns and premature infants during in-house care.
  • Formulate and implement individualized care plans based on assessment findings, collaborating with neonatologists and specialists.
  • Provide direct patient care, including neonatal stabilization, respiratory management, and ongoing monitoring.

Transport Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough pre-transport assessments to ensure the safe transport of critically ill infants.
  • Provide neonatal stabilization and respiratory management during ground and fixed-wing transports.
  • Collaborate closely with the transport team to ensure seamless and comprehensive care during transport.

Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate closely with neonatologists, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Effectively communicate patient status, treatment plans, and changes to the interdisciplinary team.

Education and Support:
  • Provide education and support to families during both in-house care and transport, offering guidance on infant care, feeding, and developmental milestones.
  • Offer mentorship and support to nursing staff, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

Quality Improvement:
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and optimize neonatal care practices.
  • Contribute to evidence-based practice projects and stay current on advancements in neonatal healthcare.

Additional Requirements
Required:
Certifications - Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) - South Dakota Board of Nursing or Physician Assistant (PA) - South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners
Preferred:
Experience - 1+ years of Clinical Experience; 1+ years of Healthcare Experience
Physical Requirements:
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
