The medical oncology service is a busy and productive clinical team providing services to patients with cancer and benign blood disorders in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
The Oncology Service Line OSL looking for ways to improve access to care and meet its service standards for patients.
Background: Currently there are three Medical Oncology practices in the southern region with 6 locations. As part of the consolidation plans for cancer services, the eventual plan is to have two cancer centers in Monmouth and Ocean county with the various medical and surgical oncology practices operating as a cancer group vs independent sites.
Given the high volume, both new patients and wrvus at above 75 percent within the medical oncology practices specifically, additional providers, both APN and MD are in need.
A model has been developed by the OSL to bring on two APNs to round in the three southern hospitals easing up burden of the MDs and allowing more office time to get new patients in sooner. Currently third next available is 19 days. 62 percent of visit volume is cancer diagnosis vs benign.
