Job description

Hillsboro Aero Academy is one of the largest, multi-campus airplane and helicopter flight schools in the United States, headquartered in Oregon. Our real-world environment, decades of quality training experience, and personalized approach have helped prepare thousands of students from the US and around the world to become airplane and helicopter career pilots. The first flight training academy to receive IS-BAO accreditation for its safety management system, Hillsboro Aero Academy maintains an on-campus fleet of over 74 airplanes and 20 helicopters to the highest safety standards. The primary responsibility of this position is the ability to instruct all levels of CFIs:

  • Complete initial Instructor Standardization in accordance with FAR 141.79
  • Complete annual recurrent instructor Standardization in accordance with FAR 141

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conducting flight training in accordance with FAR and HAA CFI course outline
  • Perform Flight Instructor duties authorized by the Federal Aviation Regulation and in accordance with the approved training course outlines.
  • Ensure compliance with and promotion of the HAA Safety Management System.
  • Maintain satisfactory student progress through the course(s), ensure course standards and training requirements are met, and communicate delays to the supervisor.
  • Accurately maintain all appropriate records associated with student training.
  • Attend weekly meetings.
  • Attend administrative, standardization, in-service training, and instructor development meetings, as assigned.
  • Maintain and apply effective teaching and evaluation techniques.
  • Provide and/or coordinate all academic instruction as directed by the Chief Pilot, and course syllabus, including, but not limited to lectures, practical exercises, small group events, and guided discussions.
  • Ensure assigned students are scheduled for flights/ grounds and stage checks in a timely manner.
  • Issue required student courseware (Student Guides, handouts, approved changes, etc.) required for course attendance to include maintaining student folders as required.
  • Ensure course materials are current prior to each instruction event.
  • Remaining current in all procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain a minimum 80% pass rate on all stage checks of assigned students.
  • Maintain recency in accordance with FAR 61.57 on file with instructor records.
  • Complete periodic Line Checks/Evaluation Flights as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by management and Chief Pilot

Requirements:

  • Valid Certified Flight Instructor Certificate of at least 2 years minimum.
  • 141 Experience
  • Recency of experience in accordance with FAR 61.57
  • 1st or 2nd class Medical Certificate
  • 400 Hours Dual Given
  • 80% Pass Rate

Preferred Experience:

  • CFII/MEI Preferred
