ADN Instructor

Category/Level: Faculty, 9-month contract

Basic Function: Provide instruction to ADN students in theory and clinical components of the curriculum. Major focus of theory and clinical instruction will include medical/surgical nursing, but may also involve other specialty areas of nursing as well.


Required Qualifications: Must equal or surpass minimal instructional requirements established by the College's Quality Faculty Plan or demonstrate annual progress toward attainment. Must have a Master of Science in Nursing degree or significant progress toward attainment of the MSN degree inclusive of a designated date of completion. Must have at least three years of experience in acute care clinical nursing with a preference of medical/surgical experience and a current RN license from Iowa or state recognized in the Nurse Licensure Compact. Nursing education experience preferred.

Physical Qualifications: Ability to complete 8- to 12-hour clinical shifts supporting students with client care in health care agencies, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately, visual acuity to view a computer terminal, ability to use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations.

Responsibilities:
1.Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities. Teaching assignments may include evening courses and teaching via alternative delivery systems such as online or off-campus.
2.Plan, implement, and sponsor appropriate activities to supplement instruction based on Quality Matters standards and sound instructional design principles.
3.Assist in selecting textbooks, developing/updating curricula, completing reports (including accreditation reports), tracking/reporting assessment data, and contributing to program review/strategic planning. Maintain records and files as requested by the department and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs.
4.Evaluate, record, and report attendance. Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
5.Attend departmental and institutional meetings. Participate, as possible, in professional development activities at the College and within state and regional organizations. Serve actively on institutional committees.
6.Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market NIACC.
7.Support student organizations and activities.
8.Maintain skills in teaching methods, course development, and professional development as recommended by Division Chair and Vice President of Academic Affairs.
9.Prepare annual Quality Faculty Plan and execute personal development program to enhance course content knowledge and teaching effectiveness skills.
10.Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position including clinical activities during early morning and evening hours.
11.Maintain records and files as requested by the department and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Division Chairperson and the Vice President of Academic Affairs, relating to the best interest of the program and student success.
12.Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, faculty, and other NIACC stakeholders.
13.Provide attention to detail, accurately follow written and oral instructions, and work independently.
14.Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, gender, and disabilities populations.
15.Participate in the development and/or execution of departmental tasks and projects in the area of instruction or instructional support (i.e. program evaluation, department records, and external program accreditation requirements).
16.Maintain currency of professional skills including competency for supervising nursing students in the clinical setting, laboratory and Health Simulation Center.
17.Provide flexible clinical scheduling to maintain positive learning experiences for students including simulation activities.
18.Coordinate clinical rotations and observational schedules.
19.Serve as a resource and mentor to part-time faculty.
Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
