The Durham Museum is looking for welcoming and helpful people that excel in customer servicer to work at our Admissions Desk.

Position Overview:

The Admissions Specialist is responsible for creating a great first impression by being welcoming, engaging and helpful. This position will facilitate daily operations at the admissions desk by getting customer information, completing sales transactions, and sharing information about daily events and programs. This role may also be asked to assist customers in the museum shop and soda fountain once cross trained in those areas.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Execute duties joyfully and to museum standards with excellent customer service in mind.
  • Greet and engage with customers while completing business and cash transactions for general admission and membership entry.
  • Promote and sell memberships and encourage annual fund contributions.
  • Operate cash registers following prescribed cash procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of current events, exhibits and programs and assist customers with planning their visit.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures. (Desk organization, stocking brochures and supplies, strike and set up for events, etc.).
  • Report any maintenance needed in the museum to facilities or management.
  • Maintain accurate working knowledge of all software programs associated with the customer service areas including Altru and TAM POS systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of discount codes and promotional event procedures for admissions.
  • Work with the Senior Manager of Customer Experience to establish and execute annual departmental goals.
  • Support the museum’s overall strategies and operational activities within the Customer Experience department.
  • Participate in all mandatory training and safety programs required and provided by the museum.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Customer Service experience preferred.
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork.
  • Effective and timely communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.

Working Conditions:

  • Part-time hourly non-exempt position with a variable schedule to meet museum needs.
  • Routine periods of standing, bending, and stooping.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and use hands/arms continuously for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift boxes up to 40 lbs.; to unload and stock merchandise.
  • Position ranges from 15-25 hours a week. Most hours will be during standard museum operating hours but may include holidays/evenings to accommodate museum special events.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 30 per week
