Job description

Under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Law Judge, the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) presides over videoconference and/or in-person administrative hearings regarding unfair practices and representation disputes under PERB's and the State Mediation and Conciliation Service's (SMCS) jurisdiction, prepares proposed decisions and conducts settlement conferences, all in compliance with the Administrative Adjudication Bill of Rights (Government Code Section 11425.10, et seq.), PERB statutes, PERB Regulations and relevant legal standards. The ALJ shall, upon request, provide input and advice to other ALJs as to their work product.
The position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making, or participating in the making of, governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete a Fair Political Practices Commission Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict of Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB or Board) is a quasi-judicial administrative agency charged with administering the collective bargaining statutes covering employees of California's public schools, colleges, and universities, employees of the State of California, employees of California local public agencies (cities, counties and special districts), trial court employees, trial court interpreters, supervisory employees of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Judicial Council employees, Orange County Transportation Authority employees, Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) employees, Sacramento Regional Transit District employees, Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District employees, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority employees, and child care providers who participate in a state-funded early care and education program.
