Job description

The School of Education and Social Sciences at Missouri Valley College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of Psychology to qualified individuals. Collegiality, professionalism, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and the college mission are required. Both on-campus and online opportunities are available.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

Teach assigned course(s) as specified in the course schedule and contract.

Guide students to succeed through personal instruction and intellectual inquiry.

Prepare and distribute to students a complete and comprehensive syllabus as per institutional guidelines for every course taught. 

Undertake and monitor initiatives to improve student learning.

Respond to student work, communications, and requests in a timely manner.

Maintain a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment.

Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate work with colleagues in a timely manner.

Complete assigned or accepted responsibilities, including routine administrative tasks, with accuracy and attention to detail by established deadlines.

Comply with all institutional policies, requirements, and procedures.

Representative, but not all inclusive, of the essential job functions/responsibilities required for this position.

Qualifications

Master's Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Psychology from an accredited institution required.

Terminal degree in Psychology or a related field from an accredited institution preferred.

Previous teaching experience in a college or university setting preferred.

Physical Demands

Stamina to teach classes as required.

Ability to stand or sit for extended time periods.

Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

Ability to engage in effective interactions with students, employees, alumni, and other stakeholders, including individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.

Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Ability to work effectively and independently in a remote teaching environment with minimal supervision.

Ability to provide an unwavering example of professionalism.

Working knowledge of Google Workspace preferred.

Working knowledge of Brightspace or an equivalent learning management system required.

Ability to successfully complete the MVC Online Masterclass (applies to online instructors only).

Representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position.

Work Environment 

Home Office (Online Instructors)

General classroom and office settings (On-campus Instructors)

Required Technology (Online Instructors Only)

Desktop or laptop computer with webcam and microphone. 

Dependable, high-speed Internet access. The required browser is Chrome. 

Additional Information

As a pre-condition of employment, the applicant must be authorized to work in the United States. Employment at MVC is contingent upon satisfactory completion of background check. Compensation varies by course based on student enrollment and program type.
