The MA Program in Educational Transformation at Georgetown University is looking for an Adjunct Instructor to teach a 3 credit graduate level course on Critical Perspectives on Child and Adolescent Development in our Summer Session this May and June. The course has five primary learning goals: to understand and discuss the strengths and limitations among different developmental theories; to understand the interaction between developmental processes and ecological contexts (e.g., family, school, peers, community, culture, etc.); to engage in reflexive practices to explore one's unique developmental trajectory and how it interacts with and/or informs one's identity as an educator; to integrate theory and research, with personal and professional experiences to conceptualize the developmental needs of past, current, and future students; and to learn, identify, and adopt meaningful and sustaining strategies that support the development of culturally and linguistically diverse children and Adolescents within school settings.
The MA Program in Educational Transformation (https://edtransform.georgetown.edu/) is a 1 year, graduate level program designed to prepare professionals to advance equity in K-12 education across multiple domains: race, class, linguistic diversity and among students with disabilities. We take a critical stance towards educational policies and practices and seek to develop among our students the skills to transform educational settings and contexts to promote equity. We take an explicitly anti-racist position in our program and an asset-based approach in our pedagogy; we expect all faculty to uphold and model those commitments in their teaching.
The course runs from May 20, 2024-June 28, 2024, meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00pm-8:25pm. The expected pay for this course is $10,000. If you are interested in applying please email your CV, any college-level teaching evaluations, and the names of three references to Prof. Lourdes Ortega, the interim program director, at edtransform@georgetown.edu.
