Adjunct faculty positions supplement the faculty of a department wherever additional faculty are needed to provide instruction. Adjunct faculty hold appointments, as defined by their letter of appointment, without eligibility for tenure; where authorized by the Dean, adjunct appointments may be renewed. Adjunct faculty appointments do not guarantee a course assignment.
Specific responsibilities of Adjunct Faculty are given in their letter of appointment. The specific starting and expiration dates for appointments are noted in their letter of appointment. Primary responsibilities include teaching in the area of the candidate’s specialization.

Required Qualifications
All faculty must have at least a Master’s degree in the field/discipline in which they are teaching with 18 hours of course work related to the course(s) being taught. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, a faculty member could be recommended for appointment based on substitution of significant experience for the degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
Adjunct faculty must hold an advanced degree or equivalent credentials based on experience consistent with accreditation criteria of the discipline and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools ( SACS ).
All faculty must have at least a Master’s degree in the field in which they are teaching with 18 graduate hours of course work related to the specified discipline. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, recommendation for appointment may be based on the substitution of significant experience for the degree. A memo from the Dean placed in the instructor’s personnel file is required to justify an exception to the accreditation standards of SACS and must include certification of the knowledge and skills.

Applicants must submit an unofficial copy of transcripts of post-secondary course work with the application. If the applicant’s official transcripts are on file in the Office of the Provost, a statement indicating such, must be submitted in lieu of the documents with the application. Official transcripts of all post-secondary course work will be required upon selection for hire.
