Essential Functions:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the incumbent provides individual counseling, group counseling and case management services to participants with a primary diagnosis of Opioids Use Disorder (DSM-5).
Addiction Counselor Responsibilities:
- Maintain participant records in accordance with agency, SUPR and CARF standards.
- Conduct screening interviews and biopsychosocial assessments to determine if participant meets criteria for OUD and admission to MAT (DSM-5 and ASAM).
- Conduct comprehensive treatment plan, continued stay review and monitoring in collaboration with participant and members of the treatment team.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions.
- Identifies and responds to crises.
- Provide case management services (including transportation).
- Provide clinical consultation with referral resources, family members and others to help support participants in their treatment.
- Provide an initial individual orientation for each new participant.
- Provide appropriate referrals for services needed and follow-up.
- Participate in clinical staffing and be able to gather and report participant progress as directed by supervisor.
- Maintain participants rights and confidentially.
- Comply with agency policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular agency staff meetings and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by program manager.
Addiction Counselor Qualifications:
- Must have good time management skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced MAT clinic.
- Must ascribe to providing Trauma Informed Care to program pts.
- Basic knowledge of computer keyboard preferred.
- Bilingual/Bicultural (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours as needed.
- Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license and willingness to use personal vehicle in course of employment.
- H.A.S. requires all staff to work on-site.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in the Social or Human Sciences of Social Work from a regionally accredited educational institution which has U.S. Department of Education approval, or, a minimum of two years in college working on degree is preferred.
- Must have at least one (1) year of counseling experience in the substance abuse field; Medication Assisted Treatment/Methadone clinic preferred.
- Must be certified by IODAPCA CADC.
- Must have knowledge of Illinois DUI laws.
- Must have knowledge of ASAM criteria and DMS V diagnosis.
