Now hiring an Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation Director!

We invite you to bring your knowledge and experience to our Adaptive and Inclusive Recreational Programming! It is THPRD's privilege to provide a wide variety of programs and activities for Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation.


The Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation Director is responsible for assisting with the planning, organization, and coordination of recreational programs including: instructional classes, workshops, and programs for people with physical and/or developmental disabilities. The position assists with providing Inclusion for District programs and overseeing Camp Rivendale, a specialized summer day camp program located off-site.

Part-time employees are scheduled variable flexible hours and may work less than 1,560 hours per year.

Duties may include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with planning and coordination of activities of District programs or projects; developing work plans; allocating resources; developing schedules to accomplish program goals; maintaining records as required.

  • Monitoring, and evaluating program effectiveness by meeting established objectives.

  • Participating with management and community groups in developing program goals, policies, and procedures including maintaining program records and preparing reports on program operations.

  • Coordinating the activities of the program/project with other District programs and with other community and government agencies; serving as liaison to program committees, private industry, the community, and other government agencies.

  • Conducting public relations and outreach activities; recruiting volunteers and donations; developing resources within community and private organizations; providing program information to the public, community groups, and agencies.

  • Supporting and respecting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

An ideal candidate has the ability to:

  • Develop, plan and implement a recreation program.

  • Organize, train and evaluate the work of part-time personnel.

  • Understand the organization and operation of the District and outside agencies as related to assigned responsibilities.

  • Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other staff members, program participants and the general public.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in adaptive and/or Inclusive Recreation programming

AND

Education/Training:
  • Equivalent to four (4) year college, with major course work in therapeutic recreation, special education, or a related field.
