SWA is currently on the search for Accessibility Specialists (Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) / building codes) to be based in Charleston, South Carolina. As an Accessibility Specialist (ADA), you will focus on efforts towards improving the way people live by making built environments accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

The proposed annual salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 based on a 40-hour work schedule. The final salary may vary depending on confirmed job-related skills and experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of the firm's accessibility related business sector, including plan reviews, specifications, compliance product submittals, field inspections, technical assistance during project development, remediation plan development and training.
  • Become proficient in highly specialized regulations, codes, standards, and other relevant criteria:
  • Investigate, analyze, and respond to technical inquiries concerning accessibility issues.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of the accessibility standards of the A117.1, the 2010 ADA Standards, the Fair Housing Act.
  • Technologically savvy. Ability to use a smartphone/camera to record observations, and complete reports.
  • Ability to drive or fly to client locations and audit sites in inclement weather, with or without accommodations.
  • Organizational, verbal, and writing skills.
  • CAD, Adobe InDesign or Bluebeam experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously or within a team.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Prior accessibility, architectural, and/or engineering consulting experience.
  • AS or BS degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural drawings, construction documents / blueprints.
  • Certified Accessibility Inspectors/Plan Examiner (ICC).

Travel Required - Local day and/or overnight travel may be required. Expected travel may fluctuate from 20% - 50% during the 1st year depending on project needs.

Working Environment - Regular field work will involve trips to project sites as required. Only after an employee is fully onboarded, will they be permitted to work from home up to two days per week, at the discretion of the supervisor.
