Job Summary:
Acceptance to a position in this job family constitutes participation in the Actuarial Student Program at The Standard. The mission of the Actuarial Student Program is to grow actuarial knowledge, business acumen and leadership skills in our Actuaries to enable the achievement of organizational goals. Actuarial students are expected to progress through the levels of the job family based on academic/exam achievements and by developing their analytical skills, independent decision making, and effective communication and leadership skills.
We are currently seeking a talented actuary to join the Corporate Actuarial Governance / Financial Reporting team. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of Corporate Actuarial Financial Reporting deliverables.
Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the company to consolidate Financial Reporting results at the organization level, ensuring results are consistent and tell the story behind the numbers.
  • Prepare and review actuarial portions of financial statements following GAAP, statutory or tax reporting principles.
  • Contribute to the preparation, review, and analysis of reserve and actuarial reports for management and the Board.
  • Responsible for valuation of asset and derivative positions and assessing the effectiveness of derivative instruments to mitigate risk.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing ways to enhance and streamline our processes. Document existing processes along with ideas for refinements and improvements.
  • Communicate financial information to management to assist and influence corporate financial strategies.
  • Research complex regulatory issues and Financial Reporting methodologies to determine applicability and appropriate implementation.
  • Analyze financial results of the corporation to identify drivers and trends.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or related field preferred.
  • Four or more years' experience in the actuarial field
  • ASA designation required, FSA preferred.
  • Financial Reporting experience, preferably Statutory and GAAP.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills. VBA experience a plus.
  • Experience with actuarial projection software and programming languages, preferably AXIS and Python.
  • Low-ego, team-oriented, collaborative approach.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.
  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:
$90,250.00 - $132,500.00
