Brief Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform independent complex actuarial calculations related to the review and analysis of Office regulated entities filings. Exercise discretion and judgement to determine compliance with state laws and whether the requests received are reasonable and adequate.
Assembles, reviews and analyzes data submitted using computer applications to perform actuarial work.
Responds to ad hoc requests from management.
Assists in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
Represents the Office by participating in conference calls and meetings with other state regulators and industry representatives to discuss compliance requirements, develop standards, and address concerns.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Knowledge of actuarial practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use computer applications to perform actuarial work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Other KSAs:
  • Ability to work independently and organize time effectively.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.

SPECIAL NOTES:
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in mathematics, statistics, insurance or related field.
This is a non-remote on-site position located in Tallahassee, FL.
A work sample will be given to all qualified candidates.
The appointment salary is $53,000.04
Preference will be given to applicants with completion of one (1) actuarial exam with passing score.
Additional preferences:
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Professional experience in compiling and analyzing actuarial or statistical data.

Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.
