AXA XL Re North America writes reinsurance for a variety of property and casualty lines in the US and Canada. Currently, the Pricing & Analytics team is looking for a fast learner who will support the Property team while pursuing the ACAS designation. The team performs treaty account pricing, tool development, and line of business research. The position will have a focus on property products (treaty and facultative) with opportunities to be involved with other lines of business. In this role you will be responsible for pricing individual treaties. You will also help review portfolio profitability. You will have the opportunity to work in a team of pricing actuaries while collaborating with underwriters, cat modelers, claim experts and reserving actuaries.
The North America region of AXA XL encompasses the US and Canada and provides significant career development opportunity for the right candidate over the longer term. The Pricing & Analytics team partners directly with underwriting and executive management as we look to develop and deliver our strategic objectives. AXA XL offers a flexible work environment with a hybrid office/remote work schedule. We offer exam support for candidates taking CAS exams.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
  • Provide pricing support to the underwriting team:
    • Evaluate historical and prospective profitability of property reinsurance treaties. You will use a combination of experience and exposure pricing techniques and will consider all possible perils, including natural catastrophes.
    • Assess various reinsurance structures and terms and conditions to achieve minimum profitability targets.
    • Follow global pricing guidelines to ensure consistency in pricing.
    • Present and explain pricing indications to peer reviewers, underwriters and for larger accounts, to AXA XL Re North America senior management.
  • Enhance AXA XL's technical pricing and portfolio management capabilities:
    • Use appropriate data sources to monitor and update industry benchmarks for rate change, trends, and loss development factors.
    • Work with other actuaries to improve models and fine-tune assumptions and methodologies.
    • Contribute to implementation and testing efforts for reinsurance segment pricing models.

We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's Degree or better in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related STEM field.
  • Taking actuarial exams with intent to qualify in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Intermediate P&C insurance or reinsurance experience preferred but not required, with a commitment to exam progress.
  • IT skills: Advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA required, ability to code in Python preferred, basic understanding of R desirable.
  • Ability to acquire technical knowledge and adapt to new environments quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills to build effective working relationships with underwriters and other actuaries.
  • Ability to multi-task and progress on several assignments at once, balancing short-term time pressures against long-term goals.
  • Must have solid organizational skills and attention to detail.

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 55,000 - 97,000 Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual's skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues' pay.
