We are hiring for Myers Hall our recently renovated Assisted Living facility, at Bishop Gadsden located conveniently on James Island, SC! Our Activities Assistant will assist in the planning of and leading of monthly individual and group activities for our residents. The successful candidate will have compassion for and the desire to work with the elderly.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, scheduling and implementing a program of individual and group activities based on residents’ needs and schedule
- Assist in programs of a therapeutic nature suited to the physical and mental capabilities of the residents
- Participate in weekend and night programming as assigned
- Encourage resident independence and optimal level of functioning based on treatment plans
- Implement room visits and one on one opportunities as directed by supervisor
- Exercise standard precautions of infection control in all resident care
- Assist with documentation of the residents’ participation, the activity interests, needs, and concerns of the residents
- Participate in Activity Committee meetings as necessary
- Support and coordinate with any volunteers during activities
- Assess needs and maintain an adequate supply of materials to implement activity programs
- Maintain safe driving practices with respect to company vehicles
- Drive residents in Bishop Gadsden vehicles to various activities and/or events
- Observe any change in resident condition and report it immediately
- Communicate and cooperate with other members of multidisciplinary healthcare team to accomplish resident centered care
- Maintain a pleasant, respectful, and courteous demeanor
- Participate in staff functions as necessary as a member of the staff of this community
- Accept additional duties as necessary in a cooperative manner
Qualifications
- Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are necessary for exchanging information as well as maintaining a courteous relationship with the residents, families, visitors and Bishop Gadsden employees
- Ability to read, write, speak and communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written in English
- Valid SC driver’s license with no violations within three (3) years
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend, reach, and lift (up to 50 pounds /-)
- Must be able to work weekends
Required Education and Experience
- Hight School diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years’ experience as an activities professional working with elderly preferred
- Basic computer knowledge, Word, Publisher, Excel, Outlook (ability to work with computer programs as needed)
