Activities Aide

BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: To identify and honor each resident as an individual with unique needs and abilities. The position is dedicated to creating an environment that promotes dignity, independence, self-expression, and enhances each resident’s quality of life. It is the goal of this team to treat each resident as we wish to be treated if our roles were reversed. Be aware of all Hippa information such as not giving out any medical information.

OUTCOME WHEN THE JOB IS DONE WELL:

• Each resident is assisted in maintaining a sense of self-importance.
• Each resident is honored for their contribution to society through reminiscence.
• Each resident is provided an outlet for energy through structured program planning.
• An assertive approach has been utilized to “connect” residents with individuals throughout the day.
• Social isolation and risk for depression is minimized through peer integration.
• All disciplines partner to prevent and reduce potential inappropriate behaviors due to a resident’s lack of focus, purpose and or boredom.
• Each resident is encouraged to utilize remaining skills, abilities, interests, and strengths as long as clinically appropriate.
• Each resident has a choice to attend group activities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or its equivalent preferred – CNA Preferred.

SKILLS, LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong organizational skills required.
• Good listening skills/empathic demeanor.
• Must be able to develop a general understanding of the medically related services of the population served.
• Previous healthcare experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SENSORY ABILITIES NORMALLY REQUIRED.

• Ability to be independent, self directed.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written format.
• Demonstrates self-confidence.
• Displays creative thinking.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Work with all special needs residents such as MRDD. Must have at least 2 years experience in long term care.
• Must be able to lead/facilitate individual and group activities.
• Must display a high level of focused energy.
• See physical, mental, and sensory requirements/exposure risks.
