Position Summary

 

The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) Workforce Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of tasks that are standard or regular support duties within an assigned department or program. This position is governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

 

Education and Professional Work Experience

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in general business, social sciences, business   administration, or a related field.

 

Preferred Qualification

 

Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products is preferred, especially Microsoft Excel and Word. The candidate must effectively communicate orally and in writng.  The candidate must effectively use a 10 key and proficient in basic accounting and billing.

Job Responsibilities and Expected Results

 

  1. Provide assistance i n resolving operational and administration issues; identify issues and conduct research to find alternative solutions; make and assist in the implementation of recommendations.

 

  1. Read, understand, follow, and comply with verbal and written instructions.

 

  1. Consistently and timely read and respond to electronic mail.

 

  1. Read, comprehend, and effectively apply federal, state, and agency policies, procedures, and administrative guidelines to facilitate processes.

 

  1. Collaborate with management staff and employees to share and receive updated information regarding new initiatives, issues, or to resolve problems.

 

  1. Collect and analyze data to compile reports as requested. Generate and complete weekly and monthly reports by specified or negotiated deadlines.

 

  1. Apply features of Excel to design\format spreadsheets and create accurate formulas.

 

  1. Research and verify information to provide technical assistance to the public, agency staff, and other entities as directed.

 

  1. Exercise responsible discretion to protect the integrity of all confidential agency, client, student, and employee information.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

1.   Provide customer service to Employers and Tax Agents.

2.    Research amounts owed and ensure correctness .

Date: 07/01/2009 STATE OF ARKANSAS JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) Workforce Specialist is responsible for career orientation and planning, assessment, and enrollment of clients seeking eligibility for DWS programs and related services. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Interviews clients to determine eligibility for DWS programs and services by reviewing clients' forms, asking questions concerning clients' work history, and providing information on programs and services. Enrolls clients in DWS programs after reviewing clients' profile information and comparing profile to criteria for program eligibility to determine eligibility. Contacts employers/clients by telephone or correspondence to discuss job orders, potential job applicants, and issues concerning clients' eligibility for benefits or program services. Performs job placement activities by researching files and selecting position openings compatible with clients' employment profile, schedules interviews for clients, and informs clients of date, time, and location of interview. Administers aptitude and job skills assessments to job applicants by monitoring assessments, scoring and recording results and scheduling assessments. Accesses computer terminal to enter, check, and retrieve information concerning clients' information. Counsels clients by explaining program eligibility, program benefits, and employment opportunities. Completes forms, reports, and records associated with DWS programs. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in general business, social sciences, business administration, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
