Role: The Accounting Specialist maintains and updates the fixed asset and prepaid database including depreciation and amortization, accurately and timely. Provides expertise to management with respect to appropriate general ledger numbers for expense and fixed asset purchases. Processes employee reimbursements in accordance with policies and procedures. Reviews and validates accounts payable reports including reconciliation of respective GLs. Performs daily monitoring and assistance with the PCard program including assisting cardholders, verification of proper GL coding, and the upload of the transactions into the GL. Maintains and updates all property tax records. Responsible for meeting with property tax auditors when an audit is performed at a branch location.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Maintains fixed asset/prepaid expense database and accounting, including monthly depreciation & fixed asset postings. Maintains off-site files for the department.
- Processes employee reimbursements in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Reviews accounts payable payment reports for accuracy and appropriateness of all required information including reconciliation of GLs.
- Performs daily monitoring and assistance with the PCard program.
- Maintains and updates all property tax records. Meets with property tax auditors.
- Troubleshoots and resolves internal and external inquiries. Communicates continually with credit union personnel to ensure their understanding of the general ledger chart of accounts.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Experience: One or more years of accounts payable/accounting or financial institution experience.
Education: A high school diploma or GED required. An Associate's degree in Accounting preferred.
Other skills required:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required with the ability to effectively interact and make recommendations to all levels of the organization
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel
- Excellent analytical skills and reasoning ability
- Excellent organizational and time management
- Must be accustomed to working with deadlines
- Must be detail oriented and accurate
