Position Overview:
Van Wyck is seeking a skilled Accounting Manager to oversee all aspects of the accounting cycle, from recording daily financial transactions to preparing and communicating projects and financial reports. This role requires an organized, efficient, and detail-oriented professional with a deep understanding of accounting principles, sound interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of managing full-cycle accounting processes. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, tracking incoming and outgoing payments, and providing internal stakeholders with accurate, timely information.
Responsibilities:
1. Accounts Payable
· Process vendor invoices and ensure accurate coding.
· Initiate and execute timely and accurate payments to vendors.
· Address and resolve internal and vendor AP inquiries.
· Update and maintain internal reporting.
2. Accounts Receivable
· Post and report customer invoices.
· Monitor bank accounts and post payments.
· Manage and actively communicate AR aging.
· Update and maintain internal reporting.
3. General Expense Management
· Review, record, and reconcile credit card transactions, petty cash, and employee reimbursements.
4. General Ledger and Journal Entries
· Record accurate and timely payroll, and intercompany journal entries.
5. Account Reconciliation
· Perform monthly bank and credit card account reconciliations.
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
6. Sales Tax
· Monitor, calculate, and remit monthly/quarterly sales tax filings in accordance with regulatory requirements.
7. General
· Manage a high volume of accounting transactions with acute attention to detail in data entry and related communications.
· Maintain strong communication skills to interface with external vendors and internal partners.
· Ensure compliance with accounting principles and company policies.
· Assist in audits by providing necessary documentation.
· Identify opportunities for financial process improvement.
· Undertake additional ad-hoc projects and assignments as required.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Positive mentality and highly motivated
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organization and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, demonstrating expertise in data formulation, manipulation, and pivot tables
- Expert knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, conveying information clearly, on time, and articulately
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, active environment
- Ability to receive and react positively to constructive criticism
- Initiative-driven with the ability to work independently while fostering teamwork
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related business discipline
- 3-5 years of experience in finance or accounting roles
- Exemplary proficiency in precision and accuracy, ensuring meticulous attention to detail in all tasks
- Proficiency in Office 365
- Proven expertise in managing, prioritizing, and communicating a high volume of accounting transactions
- Proven experience as a full-cycle bookkeeper
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles and practices
