Job description

Description: Are you looking for an Accounting Generalist position?CPC is seeking candidates for our Accounting Generalist position.
SUMMARY: Manages all aspects of the accounts payable process, while teaming with the Early Childhood Education (ECE) senior accountant to assist with financial management of the ECE programs by performing various fiscal functions. Applies accounting principles to record and analyze financial information, as well as helping to ensure compliance with ECE grants and CPC policies and procedures.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be committed to the vision and mission of Community Progress Council, Inc.
  • Maintains continuous high level of knowledge about Head Start regulations, grant requirements, fiscal policies, and procedures.
  • Manages accounts payable to include but not limited to: posting accounts payable entries, preparing invoices for payment, and printing and submitting payments via ACH or check.
  • Maintains vendor w-9’s and certificates of liability and monitors the prohibited vendors list.
  • Manages purchase requests for proper documentation and appropriate budgetary source of funds.
  • Assists in the creating of grant proposals for all ECE programs ensuring fiscal and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensures proper reconciliations for each grant and GL account being utilized.
  • Maintain financial accuracy for personnel expenses in ECE programs.
  • Preparation and maintenance of accurate reports for Policy Council, Board, and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains accurate, up to date reports on site location specifics, including but not limited to number of students, teachers, transportation information, meals served, etc.
  • Assists with training staff on procurement, purchasing, payables, and payroll processes and procedures.
  • Develops working relationships with Federal and State Head Start Program Staff, Head Start Director and Senior Management, Head Start Leadership Team, Fiscal Staff, and other departments to stay abreast of funding issues, regulations and/or policy updates.
  • Performs reconciliations of all credit card accounts and maintains all charge card authorization forms, as well as preparing CC report for various committee approvals.
  • Provides needed information and support to Auditors and site reviewers.
  • Serves as a backup to other fiscal staff, as well as supporting controller, CFO, and other senior management by providing financial support as requested.
  • Assists in preparing ECE budgets, compares monthly costs against budget, and completes budget projections throughout the grant year.
  • All other duties as assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to demonstrate good customer service to internal and external clients and be able to work with diverse individuals while demonstrating good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Being dependable, flexible, professional, and cooperative in a team environment.

EDUCATION and OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prefer an Associate’s Degree in accounting or other business-related field from an accredited school and a minimum of two years’ experience or combination of secondary accounting education and 5 plus years of experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization with multiple programs.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills; ability to stop and start a task with multiple interruptions.
  • Experience with working in accounting systems and maintaining electronic files.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the public.
  • The willingness and ability to comply with local, state, and federal financial regulations, as well as the regulations established by the Community Progress Council itself.
  • Understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment is required.
  • Ability to maneuver, adjust, and work proficiently in various funding websites and other computer systems as required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS to CONSIDER: The qualified candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality, have reliable transportation for regular and timely attendance, and the ability to be reached by telephone in a timely manner.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Department of Human Services FBI Fingerprints, National Sex Offender Registry, PA State Criminal History and Childline Child Abuse Certification and a physical assessment (no more than 1 year old) including a tuberculosis skin test are required prior to hire. Child Abuse “Mandated Reporter” training is due within 90- days of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be available to work and complete tasks as assigned by the teaching team and respond to changes in a productive manner. This position is primarily a computer/desk centered position and may require long periods of sitting, standing, and filing. The ability to see, hear, use fingers and hands to manipulate documents and keyboards, and communicate both verbally and in writing are essential.
