Job Description:
SUMMARY
Responsiblefor producing and monitoring the College's grant reports, reconciling variousaccounts, and completing other special projects as needed.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
  • Prepares, reviews and analyzes grant reports, time and effort certifications, and other compliance requirements associated with grants
  • Researches, develops and maintains accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate grant reports
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries to assigned restricted funds
  • Identifies and resolves any issues or reconciling items related in assigned restricted funds, including following up on related receivables and payables
  • Analyzes and communicates current and projected budgets/financial positions with financial managers, project directors and other internal/external customers and resolves problems as needed
  • Provides all levels of management with useful and accurate financial information on a timely basis via verbal communication or written documentation
  • Partners with College stakeholders to understand their underlying business practices to ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place and that business activity is recorded in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepares support schedules and other analyses as needed for year-end audit purposes
  • Completes various annual financial reports for the College
  • Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close, including a monthly review and analysis of assigned College funds and general ledger accounts
  • Assists with, prepares, and/or presents documentation for annual audit and any internal or external audits, reviews and site visits
  • Inputs and maintains appropriate information in the Banner accounting system module and other business systems in the department
  • Recommends and/or assists with implementation of enhancements and conversions
  • Participates in training with regard to College policies and procedures
  • Analyzes spending associated with Federal Financial Aid and submits reimbursement requests to the Department of Education
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
    • Significant related experience may substitute for education
  • Minimum of three years of demonstrated financial analysis and reporting experience
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS and ABILITIES
  • Possess basic knowledge of fundamental GAAP concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
  • Ability to effectively respond to requests from multiple levels of the College in various departments

  • Ability to collaborate, persuade and gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant (or candidate for either)
  • Demonstrated experience with the Banner System (or equivalent program)
  • Demonstrated accounting experience in higher education, fund accounting, and/or externally funded projects

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment;
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated;
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.;
  • Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite
