Position Summary:

The accountant will keep a complete, accurate, and systematic set of records for all financial transactions carried out by the cooperative in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings, improve the cooperative’s efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service.


Essential Functions:

Recordkeeping: involves preparing accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory and maintaining the general ledger, and office records.


Prepare Accountants Receivable

  • Prepare accounts receivable and send out monthly statements for the 15-day receivable accounts.
  • Post accounts receivable as received for the above accounts.

Prepare Accountants Payable

  • Set up invoices for payment and send to the A/P department.
  • Verify all extensions and additions on invoices.
  • Prepare company checks for vendors and growers for grain commodity transactions in our ERP (currently AGRIS).


Inventory

  • Post all inbound scale tickets and provide accurate information to vendors and growers of totals.
  • Provide accurate position report to the senior staff and the feed departments’ executive team.
  • Accurately enter bulk stock additions.
  • Review bag stock additions and bag inventory reconciliation.
  • Manage customer grain inventories stored with the Cooperative (Condo Storage Inventory).

Maintain General Ledger

  • Prepare, balance, and create daily reports and entries.
  • Verify that accounts receivable, accounts payable, and all other subsidiary ledgers balance with the general ledger.

Maintain Office Records

  • Reconcile cash receipts and prepare the bank deposit daily.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all product sales and purchases.
  • Maintain accurate perpetual inventory records and assist in pricing and extending inventories.
  • Prepare and submit an accurate operating report by the due date.


Office Operations: involve performing the office tasks necessary to maintain efficiency.

  • Maintain sufficient inventories of sales tickets and office supplies.
  • Maintain office equipment and keep work area neat and clean.
  • Update office and bookkeeping procedures to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Maintain daily a proper filing system of all patron purchases.


Other Duties:

  • Manage customer relations.
  • Systems trainer
  • Internal Quality Control for invoicing transactions
  • Perform special assignments/projects as required.


Education:

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance preferred.


Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting related field
  • Heavy reconciliation experience required, with high volume required.
  • Previous inventory/manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in agriculture industry preferred.


Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of customer service practices and providing superior service to the organization, its customers, and vendors.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and concepts with a specific focus on accounts payable and accounts receivable best practices
  • Knowledge of the reconciliation process and how things operate within accounting systems
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the company’s financial software including advanced query skills facilitating timely and accurate data extraction.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on GAAP and coop accounting.


Skills:

  • Advanced in Excel (v-Lookup, Pivot Tables), Word, Outlook
  • Strong communication skills for communicating with departmental staff, internal and external customers, and vendors.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on being detail orientated
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that can sometimes be ambiguous.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines (time management) on an individual and departmental basis.
  • Above average organizational skills, including sorting, filing, distributing.


Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to assess the accuracy of statements, reports, customer and vendor accounts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding customer account information.
