Job Summary
As the members of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) staff, Accessibility Specialists collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to cultivate a culture of equity and inclusion for members of the UT Dallas community who have disabilities. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the AccessAbility Resource Center (ARC). They support ARC and university leadership in ensuring compliance with federal and state accessibility regulations; determine eligibility for ARC services and resources; and coordinate access to accommodations and services for individuals with disabilities. They also assist in providing consultation to UT Dallas faculty and staff, external agencies and prospective students and employees.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education with a concentration in disability services, rehabilitation, counseling, human resources, psychology, social work, policy, education or other related field. Three (3) years relevant experience providing resources and support for individuals needing accommodations in academic and/or workplace settings. Deep knowledge of and experience applying the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate applicable laws and university policies, rules, and regulations governing accommodations. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Preference will be given to those with previous human resources experience in employment laws.
Master's degree with a concentration in human resources, disability services, special education, or other related field and/or relevant professional credentials; experience working with and coaching employees with disabilities in a secondary or higher education setting; experience providing support and resources to ensure accessibility and equity for individuals with a range of physical, cognitive, sensory, chronic health and/or other disabilities; knowledge of assistive technology and of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists with the implementation of ODEI strategic initiatives for improving and strengthening efforts toward cultivating a culture of equity and inclusion on the campus.
  • Provides case management services for employees with disabilities. This includes reviewing documentation, conducting intake interviews and follow up meetings, recommending accommodations and adjustments, making referrals to other campus and community resources, advocating for equity and inclusion for employees with disabilities in university programs and services and supporting strategies that promote their holistic well-being and success.
  • Liaises with the Office of Human Resources to ensure proper documentation of accommodations and to support employees in navigating requests for extended leave, remote work alternatives and other HR functions related to their accessibility needs.
  • Works collaboratively with Director and Assistant Director to develop reports, presentations, research briefs, and other materials related to ARC's mission.
  • Supports ARC, Equity Policy, Education and Administration and other university partners in reviewing, updating and creating accessibility-related policies and practices.
  • Provides follow through and tracks the status of and satisfaction with services provided through assessment and evaluation.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director and Assistant Director to develop reports, presentations, research briefs, and other materials related to ARC's mission.
  • Represents ARC on interdepartmental committees and working groups to support ODEI and university strategic initiatives.
  • Keeps abreast of new and evolving legal requirements and best practices in accessibility and equity for employees with disabilities in higher education.
