Access Coordinator (Student Services Intermediate Professional)

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Disability, Access and Inclusion (ODAI) at CU Anschutz, the Access Coordinator is responsible for meeting with students requesting accommodations, assessing and determining appropriate accommodations, providing case management and support in implementing the recommended accommodations, supporting ODAI's alternative testing services, and providing educational and training services to members of the campus community. This role will be instrumental in creating an exceptional student experience. An Access Coordinator must be able to partner with all areas of the university community and implement the best programmatic and policy practices to promote a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive co-curricular learning environment. This is a hybrid work position. Morning and evening hours outside of the 8:00 am - 5:00 pm workday will occasionally be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Disability Determination, Review & Decision-Making - 30%
  • Conduct access consultations to determine disability status and eligibility for student accommodation across the student experience from connection to completion.
  • Review documentation and program requirements to determine appropriate accommodations as part of the interactive process.
  • Respond to student, faculty, and staff inquiries and referrals about the accommodations process
  • Inform students of their rights, responsibilities, appeal, and grievance procedures and all associated policies related to the interactive, accommodations proces
  • In consultation with the ODAI Assistant Director, program liaisons, and relevant qualified campus professionals, conduct fundamental alteration, safety, and undue burden assessments per office procedures as it relates to student accommodation requests

Case Management & Student Appointments - 25%
  • Document all significant student interaction, accommodation requests, interactive process, and decision-making in case notes.
  • Manage confidential student database and report metrics as requested.
  • Maintain caseload of students for ongoing coordination of academic needs and referrals
  • Schedule follow-up appointments with accommodated students and students receiving temporary accommodations to check in on accommodation efficacy and student access to the learning environment.
  • Communicate with students via phone, email, Zoom, and in-person as the nature and type of the learning environment shifts to evaluate access needs and accommodations
  • Assist students in applying for certifying board examination accommodations

Implementation of Accommodations - 20%
  • Support ODAI's alternative testing services.
  • Fulfill requests for alternative formats of course materials and provide students access to necessary assistive technology in collaboration with the Center for Inclusive Design & Engineering (CIDE).
  • Collaborate with the ODAI Assistant Director for purchase of equipment for individual access (e.g. furniture, technology), and coordinate the equipment checkout process.
  • Coordinate ASL interpreting or closed-captioning services with local and contracted vendors as required for accommodations
  • Coordinate notetaking, closed captioning, and any other classroom accommodations with program faculty.

Campus Partnership & Collaboration - 20%
  • Work in collaboration with schools, programs, faculty, administrators, the Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering, Student Outreach and Support, and other campus partners to provide accommodations for disabled students.
  • Assist ODAI Director in providing ADA training and periodic updates to members of the campus community.
  • Partner with Student Outreach & Support to refer students for crisis intervention, advocacy, medical leave process, and the Shares fund for students in financial need.
  • Partner with Student Resident Mental Health to refer students for psychoeducational assessments, support groups, crisis counseling, and intervention.

Training, Professional Development & Working Knowledge - 5%
  • Monitor best practices in health science education accessibility and universal design to promote best practices within the department and on the Anschutz campus.
  • Participate in opportunities for professional development, webinar, and professional association activities to maintain an active, working knowledge of state, federal and campus laws and regulations pertaining to non-discrimination and access for people with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support ODAI and Student Affairs operations as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, health sciences, higher education, counseling, student affairs, social work, or a directly related field from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.
  • One year of experience determining disability and reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field.
  • Experience working with students in a postsecondary environment.
  • Experience working in a medical or other health science setting.
  • Experience reviewing medical and/or psychological documentation and working through an interactive process for determining accommodations.
  • Experience determining and implementing assistive technology.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal laws including American with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as they pertain to a post-secondary or health sciences environment.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting hiring range for this position has been established as $46,349 - $55,000 per year.
The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
