Job Description
Mercy Home is looking for an individual with an education background to provide additional tutoring support to the youth in our residential programs. This is a part-time/ contracted position working 2 evenings per week.
Title I Tutor Responsibilities
- Provide in-person academic tutoring for assigned youth, with specific focus on junior high and early high school age group
- Review IEP and academic achievement testing to target interventions and skill building
- Prepare appropriate content to review in the tutoring session
- Complete a summary recap
- Participate in conversation with Education & Career Resources and Youth Programs teams, as needed to best support the tutoring session
- Discuss any/all feedback and concerns with the Coordinator or Director
- Maintain confidentiality of all youth per agency policy
- Document and communicate all hours worked and discuss scheduling availability
Schedule
- Available at least two nights per week Monday thru Thursday from 6-7:30pm during the school year
- Option to tutor or teach small groups in the summer during the daytime hours
- Location: 1140 West Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL
Essential Qualifications.
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Education
- Preferred training or experience as a reading specialist
- Prior experience as a classroom teacher or tutor
- Prior experience teaching students with special education needs
- Understanding of how trauma may impact learning
- Is open and respectful of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients and is willing and competent to work with a diverse client population
- Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skill
- Participate in Mercy Home orientation and provide necessary documents for background check
