As an advocate, they help students transition to college while meeting personal and academic goals to promote persistence to graduation. Additionally, this position serves as an architect of a campus culture that contributes to the holistic development of students and a fun, enriching environment that increases retention of students.RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:Advocate Program
- Mentors students, monitors their academic and non-academic well-being, and provides both support and resources to foster success at Neumont
- Develops rapport with each advisee, proactively intervenes in difficult times
- Measured by productivity, performance, and outcome standards defined by the Director of Academics
- Design, implement and evaluate a community-development strategy that aims to increase student retention by making Neumont a fun, interesting place outside of the classroom
- Develops activities for students that serve as entertainment and support for academic success, such as study groups
- Shares team on-call responsibility to respond to urgent situations and emergences
- Other tasks as assigned by the Manager
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, counseling, student affairs administration, or a related field
- One years’ experience in education administration, student support, or counseling
- Active listening and situational assessment skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong student interviewing skills
- Ability to connect with and motivate students
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Convivial, creative, persistent, self-motivated and comfortable completing tasks on an individual basis
- Works well on a team and is committed to developing cohesion between various campus departments
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
- Excellent writing skills, editing, and proofing skills
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work or education
- Program development experience
- 40+ hours a week, exempt
- Occasional evenings and weekends, with notice
- Sitting for extended periods
- Standing for extended periods
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
