Job description

The College of Nursing seeks an Academic Services Associate. As part of the Felton Student Success Center, this position will support the recruitment, admission and retention of prospective and current College of Nursing students by providing academic support in enrollment, information and communication management. Responsibilities will require occasional time outside the 8:00 am - 4:30 pm workday to support student activities and events including some overnight travel. This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.

Key Areas of Responsibilities
Recruit, Admit and Retain Prospective and Current Students for Programs, Major Departments or Colleges

  • Participate in recruitment events and retention programming, which may involve occasional travel and evening/weekend hours.
  • Participate in recruitment events in conjunction with other College of NursingAcademic Programs as needed and directed by College of Nursing leadership.
  • Conduct transcript evaluations of prospective students.
  • Coordinate all virtual recruitment events.

Enrollment Management
  • Advise current students regarding course registration, degree requirements, and refer to campus resources as needed.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting of admissions/enrollment data.
  • Maintain accurate files of prospective and current students.
  • Complete program verification, licensure forms and other applicable forms.
  • Participate in student orientation.
  • Collaborate to supply student information for reports to organizations.

Academic Standards and Curricular Policies
  • Communicate standards and policies to prospective and current students.
  • Provide staff support to college committees and forums
  • Provide input on policy to increase student success.

Operational Support and Management
  • Provide back-up reception support for the Office of Student Services.
  • Provide information to visitors and respond to inquiries by phone and email.
  • Refer inquiries to appropriate program staff as required.
  • Maintain a UI Procurement card according to University policies and procedures

Information Management
  • Provide information and respond to inquiries by phone, email, or in person.
  • Disseminate program documents, surveys, and newsletters.
  • Ensure program information on College of Nursing website and ICON site are accurate and update as needed.

Communications Management
  • Support admission process by collating data, preparing student files, disseminating final admission letters, and answering admission questions.
  • Compose original correspondence requiring discretion and judgment.
  • Coordinate communication to students regarding opportunities to represent the College of Nursing at formal and informal events in which student perspectives are sought (recruiting events, accreditation visits, etc.).
  • Attend pertinent campus meetings/committees for programs.

This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa and comply with the remote work program and related policies.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically, one year or more of experience in program coordination or secondary education or higher education.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated by the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors to provide excellent customer service and maintain working relationships.
  • Ability to perform duties in a team-oriented, fast paced, ever-changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, multi task, be detail oriented and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications such as Microsoft Office. (Ex. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Zoom and Social Media)
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with a diverse population.
  • Valid drivers' license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with student interaction or direct student contact at high school, Community College or college level.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
