SUMMARY
The Academic Coordinator guides teachers to improve instructional practice to heighten student academic achievement. Academic Coordinators will be assigned to provide services to buildings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Model effective K-12 Art instructional strategies and appropriate use of instructional materials.
- Recommend placement assignments and specific schedules of K-12 Art staff members.
- Evaluate K-12 Art staff members.
- Consult with human resources on the interviewing, recommendation, and hiring of K-12 Art staff.
- Prepare and monitor a K-12 Art budget, and assist principals and staff in its use.
- Work with K-12 Art staff to identify instructional materials, equipment, and other needs.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with civic, professional, service, and community organizations.
- Coordinate and manage district events, and consult on school events.
- Assist in the planning of new or remodeled K-12 Art facilities.
- Monitor and support the implementation of the district prescribed curriculum and instructional practices.
- Create and maintain instructional guides for content and grade levels within their purview.
- Create and maintain formative common assessments for the content and grade levels within their purview.
- Define and coordinate building and district level professional development resource needs.
- Construct school intervention plans.
- Provide classroom coaching to teachers.
- Consult with building principals to identify and meet individual teacher needs for additional support and instructional improvement. Make recommendations to principals regarding remedies for deficiencies.
- Plan, develop and coordinate site based staff development exercises.
- Coordinate and facilitate professional learning communities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Valid Ohio K-12 Art teaching license
- Valid Ohio Administrator's license
- A Minimum of five years teaching experience in the content area. Urban classroom/administrative experience preferred.
- Documented experience in a building leadership/supervisory role.
- Knowledge and experience with research-based, effective instructional practices.
- Curriculum development experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the district's curriculum, state standards and state assessment systems.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES/DEMANDS
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, stoop, and climb stairs
- Occasionally lift and/or move lightweight items up to 40 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work will be split between office and school settings
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Work may be subject to frequent interruptions
- Some assignments are subject to completion within strict timelines
- Daily travel for meetings, professional development activities, and work assignments
