Job Summary

This position will provide academic advising to the student population at Turnbridge to support clients in promoting their academic success. The Academic Advisor assists students in transitioning from prior educational institutions (high school through 4-year college/university). Successful candidate will have outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, ability to multitask, with experience successfully working independently as well as part of a team. Provide high quality, proactive academic advising, and support to clients at Turnbridge. This includes assisting students in course selection and requirements for special focus areas, assisting with applications to community college and four-year institutions, setting academic goals, proctoring study hall, coordinating classes and tutoring sessions, and developing and facilitating workshops that focus on fostering academic skills and executive functioning skills.

Job Duties

  • Advising will occur in individual and group settings on an ongoing basis and will include regular communication with client, client stakeholders, and client care team about academic plan.
  • Coordinate with previous schools and institutions to create comprehensive academic plan.
  • Provide active support, follow-up and strategies for success, as well as general walk-in/appointment times for clients.
  • Accessible and available to deliver quality advising to clients in planning their academic program. Advise clients in specific curriculum decisions, including the appropriate choice and scheduling of courses, waiver of requirements, deadlines, and related matters.
  • Advises clients on academic issues with respect to curriculum and general education requirements.
  • Assist with educational outreach efforts to local colleges and universities.
  • Assist with the day-to-day administration by answering client questions and troubleshooting problems.
  • Provide 1:1 and group advising for new clients regarding enrollment issues, academic planning, polices, course requirements and as well as other academic administrative issues.
  • Develops and assists with educational programs, workshops, and services.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline required (Education, English, Counseling, or related field).
  • Graduate degree or progress towards a graduate degree program preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related teaching/tutoring/academic advising/student support services experience desired. Experience in assessing academic need desired.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and experience with, students with disabilities, non-traditional transfer students, or similar underserved populations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and relevant computer skills required. Prior experience with collaborating with multiple departments/agencies preferred.
  • Occasional evening/ weekend hours as needed.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse recovery programming preferred.
