ABE Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor is to work with the Department Director and other program staff with implementing the goals and activities of the FOC program. To teach and assist adult ABE students in improving their basic education skills (reading, math, language).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree from a four year accredited institution

· 1-2 year work experience with TABE testing and ABE instruction

· Knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Possession of Texas Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.

· 2-3 year work experience in education and/or social services sector.

· Certified TABE instructor

· Experience with contextualizing lessons to specific industry/training program in Mathematics, Language, and Reading. (Healthcare industry: Certified Nurse Aid, Phlebotomy, Medical Business Office Professional/Medical Billing)

· Comfort and experience with virtual classroom settings

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Instruct assigned ABE classes for the duration of the cohort class. The cohort schedule varies depending on specific training program.
• Administer electronic TABE testing based on programming needs.
• Utilize appropriate ABE curriculum with a variety of materials and teaching techniques to enhance student learning and outcomes, and to maintain student interest.
• Using contextualized learning to make the lessons align with the targeted training area (as mentioned above in qualifications)

· Provide all students with a safe and appropriate learning environment.

· Incorporate WES (Workplace Essential Skills) training into the ABE curriculum as appropriate.

• Submit and review student data regularly for reports including, demographic information, goals/outcomes, competencies, attendance, disability information, and test scores.
• Incorporate the use of technology into the curriculum and classroom instruction as appropriate.
• Maintain cooperative relationships and open communication with all staff and students. Keep Director and coordinating staff informed of all pertinent information.
• Assist with the recruitment of new students, and public relations efforts for the program.

· Complete all necessary and required professional development annually.

PERIODIC FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain good public relations with department personnel, clients and the public
• Attend and participate in ABE meetings, professional development activities, conferences/workshops, curriculum/program planning, & special events and activities as requested by FOC staff.

· Perform other related duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Office/Classroom/online

· Travel to attend local and out-of-town program meetings and trainings occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Monday through Friday from approximately 9AM-12PM or 1PM-4PM depending on class assignment.

· Hours will be assigned as needed, according to the department’s registration and progress testing schedule.

Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
