Job Description:Executive Underwriter
Division: Accident & Health (A&H)

The Medical Business Unit (MBU) takes a full-spectrum approach to designing and servicing a robust slate of products that are tailored to needs in Employer Stop Loss, Excess Medical, Life, and Ancillary and Supplemental benefits. Our diversified business model includes program partnerships as well as direct sales in Employer Stop Loss. At year-end 2023, the MBU recorded $741M in gross premium written.
Information about the Role, Line of Business and Team:
What you will do:
- Develop sound Specific and Aggregate Stop Loss pricing recommendations for both prospective and inforce Employer Stop Loss accounts according to Underwriting Guidelines
- Make independent decisions within designated authority level and maintain proper file documentation
- Manage assigned workload to meet productivity requirements and sales goals
- Complete facultative approvals for less tenured underwriters and mentor when necessary
- Consult with the sales team to formulate a successful sales strategy
- Send large claims reporting for nurse review
- Develop strategic relationships with sales, brokers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and other external and internal partners
- Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers; responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the department
- Provide feedback to Senior Management to develop Underwriting policies and procedures as necessary
What YOU will bring to C&F:
- Advanced knowledge of Medical Underwriting practices and principles
- Strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a significant renewal book
- Highly developed knowledge and understanding of healthcare payers, health plan administration, and medical service providers
Requirements:
- Minimum of 8 years (10+ preferred) of experience in medical Stop Loss underwriting and products
- Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited institution (preferred)
- Willingness to travel multiple times per year to develop relationships

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $74,800 to a maximum of $171,000. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
