Overview:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Emergency Dispatcher. As an Emergency Dispatcher, you will play a crucial role in coordinating emergency response efforts and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. This is a fast-paced and rewarding position that requires excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze emergency situations and determine appropriate response actions
- Dispatch emergency personnel, including police, fire, and medical units, to the scene of incidents
- Transcribe and document all incoming calls and relay important information to responders
- Communicate with callers to gather necessary information and provide instructions for immediate assistance
- Utilize GIS (Geographic Information System) technology to accurately locate incidents and provide directions to responders
- Perform phone triage to assess the severity of emergencies and prioritize response efforts
- Operate complex phone systems and radio equipment to maintain communication with emergency personnel
- Negotiate with callers in high-stress situations to ensure their safety and the safety of others
- Demonstrate conflict management skills when dealing with distressed or agitated callers
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and medical professionals to coordinate a cohesive response
Skills:
- Strong analytical skills to quickly assess emergency situations
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient in using GIS technology for accurate incident location mapping
- Familiarity with phone triage protocols and emergency response procedures
- Ability to operate phone systems and radio equipment effectively
- Strong negotiation skills to handle high-stress situations calmly
- Conflict management skills to deescalate tense situations over the phone
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and protocols
